Iowa Adopts the Uniform Bar Examination

posted on 2/8/2016 in Press Releases

DBSH attorney Cheryl Weber served as the Chair of the Board of Law Examiners when the recommendation for Iowa to adopt the Uniform Bar Examination was made to the Iowa Supreme Court.

The Report to the Supreme Court of Iowa on the Process for Admission of Lawyers by Examination was submitted March 2015. The Supreme Court followed the Board's recommendation to adopt the UBE for the February 2016 Examination.

Iowa became the 17th jurisdiction to adopt the UBE. Individuals who take the UBE earn a portable score that can be used to apply for admission in other UBE jurisdictions.

The Board of Law Examiners, appointed by the Iowa Supreme Court, reviews the qualifications of law school graduates seeking admission to practice law in Iowa. The board administers the Iowa Bar Examination and tests the legal knowledge and skills of bar applicants. The board supervises the grading of the examination and recommends to the Supreme Court all applicants who pass the examination and who meet the character and fitness requirements.
